The following documents define different terms within technology in the classroom.

The first document is a link to my research paper dealing with how to define the term "technologically literate" compared to being "computer literate". With how the classroom is evolving around technology and how our students view technology, it is necessary for teachers not just to be computer literate, but also technologically literate. The important fact of the matter is to be able to teach technology rather than to use technology.

The second document defines certain technology terms. Knowing these terms, along with other technology terms, help in creating a dialouge with your students and with global community.

Educational Terms Assignment

2.) Computer Assisted Instruction involves using the computer in an actual part of the teaching environment instead of an instructional resource. Examples of CAI are problem solving questions, simulation (computer programs or internet programs), instructional games, and tutorials.

3.) Computer Managed Instruction involves not only using a computer within the teaching environment, but manages how the instruction is presented or calculated. Examples of CMI are record keeping and testing.

5.) Facebook is a social networking site first created for Harvard students as a communication tool between students (the name derived from a paper given to freshmen to help them get familiar with the campus.) Facebook turned into a social website that includes sharing multimedia outlets with selected friends within the network.

12.) ISTE Standards are created by the International Society for Technology in Education. The ISTE is a nonprofit organization that promotes the use of technology in the P-12 school environment. They promote e-learning of leadership and service through workshops and forums dedicated to professional development, advocacy, and knowledge creation.

16.) Internet consists of a global network of computer connected through online services. Each host computer is independent of each other, but still can reach the same services as the other computers on the network. It allows local services to be available at a global level.

22.) Web 2.0 is a revolution from the previous style of the web in the early 90’s. It took the internet from just being an informational tool to an interactive community of web sites and communication outlets. The design is based to be more of a social tool rather than a data resource.

27.) Zip Files are created to contain compressed files to allow to send folders or software faster than sending in separate files. Zip files allow for easier and faster downloading for email and allows for more storage space on your computer hard drive. Uses for zip files range from dispensing out files, sending a group of files, and saving disk space, either on a personalized drive or on the computer itself.
