I teach grades nine through twelve at Apollo High School in Owensboro, Kentucky. I have been teaching Visual
Arts for three years. I am also the Art Club sponsor.
I have wanted to be an art teacher since the second grade. I had a wonderful art teacher who pushed
me in my art abilities. Before she came to the school, we just did worksheets and color charts. She pushed
the whole class with mind-engaging projects and hands on activities. Since then, I wanted to do the same.
I didn't know my place in the school system until I attended high school. I helped in assisting students
as a teacher's aide in my art classrooms. I have been hooked ever since.
As a teacher, I believe that every student who walks in my class has some ability in at least one area of
art, whether it is drawing, painting, collage, or even outside my area (like in sculpture, graphic design, or fashion design). I
encourage my students just to try, whether or not they are successful. Not every student will be successful, but at least
they can say they have tried.

AT WORK
I teach through project based curriculum, starting with learning the basic
elements and principles of design. The class goes through each element and principle and creates a small project that correlates
to the main feature. Then, we start with technique and practice, starting with drawing, painting, then advancing to collage
and mixed media.
As the class progresses to advanced, they work more through art movements and techniques, ranging
from photography to impressionism, creating a large scale artwork.
When a student progresses to IB art, the class is both project and research based, with an interview
and artwork exhibition toward the end of the class session.
